Elevated to a New Place In God

by Scott Johnson

In this season of celebration, I think about the great lengths our Heavenly Father went to in order to bring Heaven and Earth back together again after they were separated in the Garden of Eden.

Paul said in Romans 5:12, “Through one man (Adam) sin entered the world and death by sin.”

Compliments of Adam’s transgression, humanity was separated from God.

“But through one man (Jesus) righteousness was restored” (Romans 5:18).

So what the Old Covenant could not accomplish, the New Covenant, through Jesus Christ, was successfully completed. This is why God gave us one Bible, but two Covenants, to explain what it took to bridge the gap between Heaven and Earth.

When Jesus’ birth was announced, humanity entered into a new era. God’s great cosmic plan was unveiled as a catalyst to complete the vast chasm that existed between humanity and Himself. Although God’s plan encountered many obstacles and faced great resistance, it was masterfully executed through Jesus Christ.Luke 2:14 says, “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (New King James Version).

When I study the elements of the Old Covenant historically, I clearly see how it couldn’t possibly accomplish what God set out to do originally. So then, in His masterful plan, He had to give us a New Covenant that was perfect. I’m overwhelmed at His love for you and for me! He went to such lengths for us!

We certainly have a reason for our spirits to be light and our souls to be full of joy—a Savior is born! Through the completed work of the Cross, we have been completely exonerated. Our slate has been wiped clean so there is no record of sin or guilt or condemnation. Under the Old Covenant, we were distant, far-off, and only an acquaintance with God. But through Jesus, our relational position with Him is completely changed. Now we are up-close and personal. With this New Covenant, Jesus has elevated us into a new place. Paul described it in Ephesians 2:6: “And hath raised us up together and made us sit together, in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”

Glory to God in the highest!!!
