The palm tree, for instance, is the most tolerant of harsh conditions more than any other tree. It can survive drought, hurricanes, floods, wind, rain, cold and even terrible soil conditions. It stands strong against impossible odds.
On the other hand, “The righteous...shall grow like the cedar in Lebanon.” The cedar tree is the tallest tree in Lebanon and stands above all others.
The Psalmist uses these two examples to portray ones who have been planted by God in the house of God. A palm is resilient even in the worst conditions, thus reaching its potential and standing strong against impossible odds. And a cedar in Lebanon suggests that you and I will move to awesome heights and rise above the normal problems and limitations of this world.
Deuteronomy 28 says “We will be above only and not beneath.” Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish. Flourish means to spread out, enlarge, expand, thrive, increase and grow luxuriantly. I love that…to grow luxuriantly. You were created to reach your full potential.
Ephesians 3:20 says, “According to the power that worketh in you.” The potential is there on the inside of you, but just like the seed that is dependent upon the soil to reach its potential, you and I are dependent upon the soil where it pleases God to plant us to reach our full potential.
You are a palm and a cedar—a tree of righteousness. So, see yourself resilient, expanding, thriving, enlarging and growing luxuriantly, reaching your full potential. When you discover the local church body that it pleases the Lord in which to place you, you have reached the beginning of becoming dependently wealthy in Him.
So plant yourself there. Thrive. Flourish. Be what Godcreated you to be. Be a tree!
